Developing an Issue-Based Campaign - This workshop takes student leaders through the steps to creating a campaign that will bring positive change to your campus or across your state. Learn how to define your issue, influence the decision maker, and reach a victory that your constituents will thank you for.
Coalition Building - Building diverse coalitions of student groups is essential to forging a unified student community. You will learn about different types of coalitions as well as how to think creatively about the groups you choose to work with. Participants will leave this workshop with the skills to meet with different student leaders and build a campus wide coalition.
Lobbying: Communicating with Decision Makers - For any campaign, it is important to build access to and meet with key decision makers. Decisions are being made on behalf of students on a regular basis; it is time to tell the decision makers what you really think. Learn how to sit down with administrators or elected officials and clearly define students' concerns and opinions.
Running Effective Meetings - Running meetings takes a lot of work. Learn how to prepare and run a good meeting that includes vibrant discussion and clear decision making. Also learn how to simplify student government meetings using correct parliamentary procedure.
Leadership Development - Student governments are subjected to high turnover which impedes a lot of progress each year. Further, to accomplish our goals and win more victories for students, we need more skilled and dedicated student leaders. By developing others you can help to alleviate turnover challenges, ensure programs continue moving forward even after you graduate and make a bigger impact. Effective Media Strategies - Media can be used for many reasons, spreading the word about the good work done by student government as well as influencing decision makers to do the right thing. Either way, this workshop will teach you the basics of creating a media strategy and the use of different techniques to get your work in the paper, on the radio, and on TV.
Running Voter Registration Drives - Registering students to vote is one of the most basic ways to engage young people in their community. This workshop will cover some of the most successful voter registration strategies that empower you to register hundreds, if not thousands, of students to vote.
