Higher
education in Colorado is in serious trouble. Colorado has the nation's
most restrictive budget revenue and spending limitations, and over the
past five years higher education appropriations were slashed as
enrollment grew. With strict budget limitations, it is difficult for
Colorado's colleges and universities to recover.
Students
are stepping up and taking a leadership role in advocating for higher
education and starting a state-wide conversation on long term
solutions. In order to form a unified and strong student voice,
thirteen student governments have come together to form the Associated
Students of Colorado (ASC), with more student governments signing on
every week.
The
SET Project has been working with ASC since day one. SET helped CU
Boulder Director of Legislative Affairs Ryan Biehle plan and execute
the first state-wide meeting where ASC was born, helped develop ASC's
legislative strategy, and ran a weekend training to prepare them for
their lobby day.
